Rappin' Shirley

Who would have imagined...the impossible...

Pastor Shirley Caesar, renowned gospel artist and recipient of eleven Grammy awards and tons of Dove and Stellar awards, willingly raps. On her 41st musical project, "I Know The Truth", she joins with Verity recording artist Tonex' on the title cut; exploding on an "in-your-face", infectious churchy track. But it is her rap, which floats right in on the vamp, that may send an alarm to the masses. Good or bad, you be the judge.

Talk about me just as much as you please
But the more that you talk, I'm gonna sell CD's...
You tellin' lies but I know the truth
We're off to the Grammys

Sounds like Rappin' Shirley has gotten a lil' too edgy for most conservative listeners. Can't wait to hear her join 50 Cent and G-Unit.

A lil' more info for you, the legendary Caravans DID record a live recording at West Point Baptist Church in Chicago a few weeks ago and featured Albertina Walker, Dorothy Norwood, Inez Andrews and Delores Washnigton. Shirley was scheduled to appear from earlier press statements but was not present. Evelyn Turrentine-Agee, known for her sensational hit "God Did It", was one of the guest vocalists.

Actually the rap is:(I'll bold the parts you chosen to leave out)

Talk about me just as much as you please,
the more you talk I'm going to sell CD's.
Everybody's (like you and this post) trippin on this track cause it's so ground breaking,
and we taking church back to the streets (were we not commissioned to GO?)
Stomp on the Devil take it to another level,
let the dust start passing as we pass church vans. (Vans full of people who have heard the same message Sunday after Sunday what about the group of teenagers on the basketball court on Sunday mornings?)

You tellin lies, but I know the truth,
We're off to the Grammy's.

The slant through which you chose to write this post is somewhat alarming. I think Pastor Caesar deserves a lot more credit then you are giving her.

She is swallowing everything she has previously said about contemporary gospel and doing what she can to reach the younger generation AND doing what it takes to compel YOUNGER men and women to come to Christ!

Be Blessed

The Bible says to Go Ye therefore and teach ALL nations. That is what Shirley Caesar does, has always done, and will continue to do. How can you teach all nations if you can't reach all nations. Pastor Caesar rapping is just another way for her to reach the younger generation.

NO WHERE IN THE BIBLE DOES IT SPEAK OF "RAPPING". IF SO, THEN SHIRLEY WOULD HAVE BEEN RAPPING A LONG TIME AGO. HER MUSIC HAS CHANGED AND SO HAS MANY OTHER GOSPEL ARTIST. WHY ARE SO MANY BELIEVERS BLIND TO THIS FACT? THE BIBLE SAY "COME OUT FROM AMONG THEM AND BE YE SEPERATE SAYS THE LORD" WHY TRY TO REACH THE YOUNGER GENERATION WITH THE THINGS THAT THE WORLD DOES AND NOT TRY TO REACH THEM WITH THE UNCOMPROMISING WORD OF GOD? IF WE (TRUE BELIEVERS)WILL JUST OPEN OUR EYES AND SEE WHAT THAT JESUS IS SOON TO COME AND THE DEVIL IS BUSIER THAN HE HAS EVER BEEN, WE WOULDN'T HAVE TO REACH THE YOUNGER GENERATION THAT WAY. THINGS TO THINK ABOUT: HURRICANE KATRINA(DEATH AND DESTRUCTION) TSUNAMI (DEATH AND DESTRUCTION) "CHILDREN" SHOOTING UP SCHOOLS; WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS (WAR ON IRAQ); DAYS ARE SHORTER. IT IS TIME TO WAKE UP AND REACH OUR YOUTH WITH THE HOLY BIBLE, NOT A RAP SONG.
